On 1 April 2012, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attend together the official launching ceremony of CMQIP. Prime Minister Najib Razak proposed that the Chinese and Malaysian governments jointly built another industrial park in Malaysia as CMQIP’s sister park and new platform for bilateral investment cooperation, to which the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao gave proactive response.

On 16 June 2012, The Agreement on Cooperation in Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park between Government of The People’s Republic of China and Government of Malaysia was signed by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia.

On 5 February 2013, Malaysia-China Kuantan Idustrial Park (MCKIP) was officially launched, marking realization of “Two Countries, Twin Park”, the new international cooperation model between China and Malaysia.
